Extremely accurate bathymetric map of Block Island, Rhode Island and surrounding area. One of the Nature Conservancy’s “Last Great Places”, 44% of Block Island is a dedicated nature preserve. The island has just over one thousand full-time residents but its population swells in the summer months, especially during their annual Fourth of July celebration.

Story has it that in 1699, dreaded pirate Captain Kidd visited the island is said to have paid the woman who brought him supplies by bidding her to hold out her apron and throwing gold and jewels into it until it was full. She later moved to northern Connecticut and bought a substantial parcel of land, becoming forever known as having been “enriched by the apron.”

This three dimensional map is carved from Baltic birch wood, framed and has a acrylic covering to protect the wood. Professional cartographers are used in the creation of each individual chart in order to insure the utmost accuracy.
