“Montague Dawson Original Oil Painting – The White Squall” This impressive original came from one of our clients whose parents purchased it in 1937 from a gallery in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. It is a depiction of the China Tea Clipper Shun Lee in 1866 sailing in an awesome squall. Montague Dawson was born in Chiswick, London in 1890 and passed away in Sussex, England in 1973. His original oils are prized by knowing collectors, especially the dramatic scenes such as this rare piece. Signed by Dawson in the lower left corner. The current owners brought it to a conservation specialist in the Bay Area and this was their quote after extensive observation: “Your painting has significant art historical value, monetary value, and important cultural heritage value”.
