Night Run to Friar’s Point

Although the painting might convey the feeling of a peaceful and uneventful riverboat ride down the Mississippi on a bright moonlit night, dangers were ever present. Logs and tree trunks in a water flow often became snarled in the paddle wheels, snapping off a few blades.
