Savannah was an extremely busy port with as many as four vessels moored against each other in stacks all along the harbor front. This view uses a coastal brig arriving on a late tide in the bath of reflected moonlight, a feature which guides the viewer's eye back into the heart of the painting-Savannah's warehouse-lined waterfront.
