Baltimore Clipper – Privateer – Original Oil Painting

Original oil painting on canvas by Paul Deacon. This talented artist loves to depict the vessels and battles of the War of 1812. He has chosen to portray a Baltimore Clipper, sometimes known as a “privateer” or “corsair” in this highly detailed original. These privateers were often issued letters of marque, allowing them to plunder enemy shipping without being part of the official U.S. Navy. Not a great deal difference between a privateer and a pirate, except for the letter of marque.

Love the detail of the people on-board and the strong impression of extreme speed, typical of this class of vessel. The gray sky contrasts beautifully and powerfully with the weathered sails. Well done work that any collector would be proud to own.
