Martha’s Vineyard: Hart Haven

This is the first painting of the WorldScape I series. Martha’s Vineyard abounds in good subject matter for the artist with its beautiful vistas over the ocean. I find the style of architecture on the Vineyard very appealing with its cedar shingle facing and white trim, enhanced by picket fences and an abundant variety of deciduous and evergreen trees.

The composition of this view is a classic, the view before me stunning. The trees on the right are in a nice group with light filtering through them to the ground cover foliage that was beginning to turn color, with the boat of classic period design tied up to the pier. Rounding off the composition are the house in the distance, the waterway threading its way through the center of the scene and as if ordered in for the purpose, a nicely textured beach for the lower left corner.
