The Bark ‘Jireh Swift’

The story of Yankee whaling ships and sailors in their incursion into the most northern reaches of the Pacific is told in a series of 12 aquarelles (this is one of them) chronicling the drama of that dangerous occupation, from the sailing period into the age of steam. The Bark 'Jireh Swift' being pursued by the confederate ship Shenandoah. Produced for portfolio inclusion with the volume “American Whalers in the Western Arctic – the final epoch of the great American sailing whaling fleet”.
