A haddock schooner built in Essex, Massachusetts by Oxner and Story in 1902, The Ellen C. Burke, which sailed out of Boston, is shown here heading back to market in 1910 after a good catch on the “Banks”, that group of underwater islands or shallows that stretch from Nantucket east past Nova Scotia and Newfoundland almost a thousand miles toward Europe. For the trip home, her dories are visible stacked and lashed on deck.
