Moving easily through a windswept sea under a dramatic sky, Stormy Weather is clearly in her element. The 54 foot yawl sails wit her jib stowed, storm staysail set and a single reef in main and mizzen as the morning watch enjoys a beautiful dawn. Mecray has faithfully captured the look and feel of an early morning sea, where deep blacks echo the night. Clouds are breaking up to the southeast as a squall moves off to the north. Like many of Mecray’s compositions, this one fairly explodes with drama and movement. It evokes the experience of an offshore passage for anyone who has spent time at sea – or dreamed of it.
